There is a commonly held belief among some Muslims that it is halaal to visit the prophets grave due to the rewards associated with this act. One of the rewards associated with this act is that the visiter to the prophets grave will receive the prophets intercession. This based on the hadeeth in which the prophet said
“My intercession becomes compulsory for the one who visited my grave”.Beyhaki in “Shuabool iman” and Daraqutni in “Sunnan” and by Bazzar.
However this hadeeth is very weak because In the chain are two unknown narrators. The first is Abdullah ibn Umar al-Umare. Sheik Ansare noticed that Abu Khateem said he is unknown. The second unknown narrator is Mosaa ibn Khilal al-Basre. Abu Khateem said he is unknown. Al-Uqayle noticed that it’s wrong to rely on his narrations.
Imam Heythami in “Majmau zawaid” said about the report by Bazzar “In the chain is Abdullah ibn Ibraheem al-Qifare and he is weak”. Sheikh Albani in “Daeef al-jamee” said this narration is fabricated.
Therefore the reward of intercession for the person who visits the prophets grave is non-existent. Also the belief that there is a special reward for visiting the prophets grave is false.
