Shaykh Abu Amr Al-Hajooree said, “Doing business is not a fault, the Salaf used to do business…[but] that which you [those who use the Salafi dawah as a tool to make money] are criticised for is not that you are businessmen or that you do business, for that is not disputed except if that is from prohibited [sources] or from ways that are not legislated.
However the fault [with you] is that the [Salafi] dawah be taken as a tool for business [to make you money].
Doing business in the name of [Salafi] dawah and taking the wealth of the people…doing business under the assumption that it is dawah, that is what one should be cautious of.
If you want to do business then do business, in that which is permissible and leave off from the dawah.
Do not do business in the name of dawah, for indeed this is considered cheating, tricking and deceiving the Muslims, i.e. doing business in the name of dawah, as for business that is purely (business) and has no connection to the dawah within it, then this affair has no caution in regards to it.
Nor is there any one disputing with you over this, rather that which is disputed is business in the name of dawah. You take affairs in the name of dawah and do business within it and the intention behind all of this is what? Is to take the wealth of the people with bewilderment and stealth…
The selling of commodities there is no problem with it and we have previously mentioned that the companions (of the prophet) did business, as did the heads of Al-Islaam used to do business and even until now there is no problem with it.
Amongst us business is present and if Allah had not made business for the people then many benefits would have been impeded, this affair is not disputed…
Doing business is not disputed except if it is under the assumption that it is dawah, taking a wage in the name of dawah and calling to the wealth of the people with falsehood, this is that which is prohibited…” Ref: Aloloomenglish.net
